How We Work

Canopy Funders supports corporate philanthropic leaders when decisions about climate and environmental philanthropy need to be clear, defensible, and aligned with both business priorities and the realities of the climate transition.

We work in two primary ways: confidential advisory engagements and an invitation-only peer membership.

Advisory

Trusted, confidential support for corporate philanthropy leaders

We partner with corporate philanthropists navigating pivotal decisions about climate and environmental giving.

Clients typically engage when:

  • Senior leadership is questioning the role of climate or environmental philanthropy

  • Materiality or sustainability assessments point toward climate alignment, but direction is unclear

  • Teams need to more clearly articulate the business value of their giving

  • A foundation is deciding whether and how to invest in climate or environmental work

Engagements typically begin with a focused, time-bound strategy exploration and may continue to support execution, refinement, and internal alignment.

Advisory support may include:

  • Clarifying strategic fit and focus areas

  • Defining funding priorities and evaluation criteria

  • Shaping leadership-ready narratives and talking points

  • Strengthening grantmaking processes to be effective, fair, and feasible

Membership

A peer community for serious practitioners

Canopy Funders convenes an invitation-only, annual membership for corporate climate and environmental funders who want to learn alongside peers facing similar responsibilities.

Membership is designed for practitioners who are already investing or actively exploring investment in climate and environmental work, and who want to strengthen their leadership over time.

The membership offers a trusted space for:

  • Peer learning and practitioner exchange

  • Articulating and demonstrating business value

  • Building internal influence and leadership capacity

  • Improving grantmaking processes and systems

Programming blends virtual sessions, curated convenings, and in-person gatherings, with a strong emphasis on practicality and relationship building.

Membership is intentionally limited in size.
